1. What is a full body massage?

A full body massage covers all the main areas of your body in one session. It's based on Swedish massage, known in Germany as klassische Massage, the style most other Western massage techniques grew out of.

Your therapist works through your body in order, usually starting with your back and shoulders and the backs of your legs, then the fronts of your legs, your arms and your neck once you turn over. Nothing gets skipped.

Swedish massage uses five main strokes:

  • Effleurage: long, gliding strokes that warm the muscles and link one area to the next. A session usually starts and ends with these.
  • Petrissage: kneading and squeezing the muscles to work into tension.
  • Friction: small circular movements that work into tight spots.
  • Tapotement: light, rhythmic tapping with the edge of the hands.
  • Vibration: gentle shaking that helps loosen the muscles.

Because it covers so much, a full body massage needs at least 60 minutes. If you only want certain areas done, or have 30 minutes, a relaxing massage is the better choice.

2. What are the benefits of a full body massage?

Everything done in one session

Back, legs, arms and neck: nothing gets left out, so you leave feeling that your whole body has had attention, not just the part that was shouting loudest.

Loosening tension all over

Massage can help release tightness that builds up across the body, not only in the neck and shoulders but in the legs, hips and arms too.

Moving more easily

Many people say they feel looser and move more freely after a full body massage, especially after a long week of sitting at a desk or training hard.

Switching off

Even at a firmer pressure, an hour of steady, rhythmic massage is a good way to step out of a busy week.

A good regular massage

As a classic all-round treatment, it's a sensible choice if you like to book a massage every few weeks.

3. Is a full body massage suitable for you?

A full body massage suits most adults. It's a good choice if you carry tension in several places, if you're active and want an all-round treatment, or if you simply like to have everything done.

If one area needs focused, deeper work, a deep tissue massage or sports massage will suit you better. If you'd like something gentler, or only have 30 minutes, choose a relaxing massage.

Tell us before you book if you have a fever or infection, a recent injury or operation, a skin condition in the area to be treated, a blood-clotting disorder, or any condition you're currently being treated for. If you're unsure, check with your doctor first. If you're pregnant, book a pregnancy massage instead.

4. How we can help you

Your full body massage takes place in one of our warm, quiet treatment rooms at Winterfeldtstraße 17. Choose 60 or 90 minutes and the therapist you'd like. 90 minutes gives your therapist extra time on the areas that need it most.

Before you start, your therapist asks about pressure and any problem areas, and you can ask for firmer or lighter pressure at any time. Between them, our therapists speak German, English, Arabic, Farsi, Spanish, Russian, Greek and Japanese.

You can book online at any time and pay by card, PayPal or cash.

5. Frequently asked questions

Full body or relaxing massage: which should I book?

If you want your whole body covered from head to toe, book a full body massage (60 or 90 minutes). If you'd rather focus on certain areas, or only have 30 minutes, book a relaxing massage.

Is a full body massage the same as Swedish massage?

It's based on Swedish massage. The style was developed in the 19th century and is known as Swedish massage in English. In Germany the same style is usually called klassische Massage.

What's the difference between Swedish and deep tissue massage?

Swedish massage uses flowing strokes across the whole body at medium to firm pressure. Deep tissue massage is slower and firmer, working into the deeper layers of muscle on specific problem areas.

Should I book 60 or 90 minutes?

60 minutes covers all the main areas. 90 minutes lets your therapist spend longer where you need it, such as your back or legs.

What should I wear?

Whatever you're comfortable with. Some people keep their underwear on, some don't. Either way you're covered with towels, and only the area being worked on is uncovered.

Is this a professional massage?

Yes. All our massages are professional treatments carried out by qualified therapists.
